Research Newsletter 07.06.2011 - bfu knowledge base "Accidents in equestrian sports in Switzerland"
The bfu’s new basic document “Accidents in equestrian sports in Switzerland” (Unfälle im Pferdesport in der Schweiz) describes riding accidents. Following an introduction on accidents as a whole and sports accidents in general, a closer look is taken at both non-fatal and fatal accidents in equestrian sports. Various data sources permit detailed analyses by gender, age, accident location, injury localisation and accident circumstances.
This publication is available in French and German.
The bfu is working closely with ASiS, the German working group on safety in sport, in order to collate all currently available findings on effective measures for the prevention of equestrian accidents. Based on this accident analysis and an exchange of experience with the AsiS specialists, the bfu is drafting a brochure with the Swiss Equestrian Federation (SVPS) that contains the most important tips on accident prevention for participants in equestrian sports. It is scheduled for publication in 2012.
